owl to Sinclair Montgomery

Jan 04, 2008 01:24

Dear Mr. Montgomery,

We are in desperate need of a sit down conversation. You will reply back with where you would like to meet. I assure you that I will come alone, and I will be expecting you to do the same. I am free tonight so perhaps you can clear your schedule.

Sincerely,

Cassiopeia Malfoy

Sinclair named the place and sat in a table at the back of the Leaky waiting for Cassie Malfoy to arrive.

Cassie arrived and moved with the grace of a lioness on the hunt. Her eyes scanned the pub and immediately fell upon the handsome face in the back. Well, of course he's beautiful. Leo was his parents' son after all. Striding across the room, she took her seat and leveled a gaze at him. "Mr. Montgomery," she said in an icy tone, "Thank you for meeting me."

Sinclair rolled his glass between his hands. Resisting the urge to flee from the rightly pissed off woman in front of him. "Mrs Malfoy."

"I have only one question for you, and I expect an honest answer. If I ever find out you have lied to me you will regret that, I assure you." Her tone was that of an angry mother. Merlin, he was so young. She was half tempted to grab him by the ear and march him to a corner to think about the mess he had played a part in creating. "What are your intentions regarding my son?"

Sin nearly dropped his glass at her question.

Intentions? She wanted to know what his intentions were.

Merlin.

What were they?

He spoke quickly without censoring himself the way he usually did and just hoped that she wouldn't hex him before he finished.

"I have no idea what my intentions are. I never expected this - I never set out to - I never planned for Leo." He set the glass down before his grip could crush the glass. "I'm not defending what I've done. I know there isn't a defense." His next words were for Cassie's ears only. "I love him. I tried to do what was right and end things - I tried to walk away. I love him and even though I don't know what's going to happen next but I want to be with him."

"You don't know. Well, at least, you, unlike my son, realize that you don't know what you're doing. That is the beauty of being a teenager, Mr. Montgomery, they are allowed to believe they know everything. They are permitted to make foolish choices that have horrific consequences. You are an adult. You were entrusted with the care of my son. Apparently you took that to mean that caring for him included falling for whatever little tricks he pulled to convince you to cross the line that you were supposed to adhere too."

She sat up and shook her head at the waitress who offered to get her a drink.

"You love him. Right, well then that makes things difficult doesn't it? You wish to be with him? You'll be following him to..." she paused before practically spitting out the word, "Milan? Fine, you are the adult, Sinclair. You will be taking custody of my son if you follow him. You'll be responsible for ensuring he is well cared for. You'll be responsible for ensuring he remains safe. You will be held responsible for any owls his fathers or ( ... )

It's not a choice. Or if it is, it's a choice Sinclair made the first time he touched Leo. And it's a choice he made all over again after they'd broken up.

He knew there was no breaking loose from Leo.

"I'm staying with your son."

Her eyes flashed with anger for just a second before she nodded her head. "Very well."

Reaching into her designer handbag, she retrieved one of those cigars with the blue wrappers that say, Congrats, it's a Boy. Cassie placed it in front of him before smiling at him the way a vampire would smile at him before draining him dry.

"Congratulations and good luck. Trust me, you'll need it." She stood up, closed her bag and arched an eyebrow at him. "One owl, Sinclair, one single whisper that my son has been hurt or worse while under your care and you will wish his godfather had ripped you limb from limb. Now, be a good lad, and see if you can manage to keep my little boy safe until July 28th. I'll have people watching, and I will know if something happens to him." With that, she turned and walked away.
