(LMAOOOO, SOME NEW IDEAS ARE JUST SHINY AND DISTRACTING! And I would totally encourage shiny Teen Wolf fic, yep. I am just...idk, STALLED on writing in general /o\) (also this is a really long multi part comment)
I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERNS OVER STILES/LYDIA BEING A "NICE GUY" THING AND I GET THOSE VIBES TOO AT TIMES, like, I paused and made a face during that speech at the dance too, but I don't think that's what the show is going with, when it comes to them? Like, that speech was primarily about Stiles letting Lydia know he sees past her mask and I thought it was wonderful how she got to correct him (No, I'm winning the Fields Medal) and didn't immediately have to backtrack and eat her words like she usually does and it gave me feels, nice guy ishness aside (also, I find it interesting that Stiles spends most of the night being super sweet to her but what makes her dance with him is him acting like a milder version of Jackson; not that it's ~acceptable~ for him to do that, god no, or that Lydia wants him to do that, but I feel like Lydia--much as she enjoys being validated and craves for people to see her as who she is and likes being worshiped--doesn't respect the bending over backwards Stiles does and prefers it when people challenge her, only she's been in such a bad relationship with Jackson, I think she's used to considering Jackson being a douchebag as "challenging her" which makes me /o\ mah poor bb Lydia)
Nor do I think the show thinks Stiles deserves Lydia? Like, Stiles spent the entire last episode trying to protect Lydia and Lydia makes out with Jackson. Stiles doesn't get rewarded for his pining behavior. Stiles even laughed at Isaac's nice guy routine. Stiles consistently tries to get Lydia to like him and consider him as a dating prospect and it blows up in his face (asks Scott to check if she's into him, Scott makes out with her instead; saves her life, she thinks Jackson saved her life; tests the waters by asking her if two things that shouldn't fit could fit, she agrees, but thinks he's talking about Allison/Scott; tries to cheer her up while she's crying, disappears for two hours). And it's not just a running joke to make us feel bad for Stiles, the show never shames Lydia for her choices or for rejecting him. The show never frames the choices she makes instead of being receptive to Stiles as "wrong" or like she's blind or making a mistake to not consider him. Lydia makes out with Scott because SHE WANTED to and no one shamed her for that; the closest thing we got was Allison nicely saying "hey that was a little uncool" and then letting it go. Lydia gravitates towards Jackson and makes out with him, and while I don't like the Jackson/Lydia relationship, I really appreciate there's no shaming of her for still having feelings for her douchebag ex-boyfriend. The show could have played it as "LYDIA HOW DARE YOU WANT TO MAKE OUT WITH JACKSON AFTER HOW BADLY HE TREATED YOU, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU" but it's not like that; Lydia gets to call Jackson out on his bullshit and yell at him and tell him how much she hates him, and she gets to make out with him because her life is out of control right now and she wants something familiar and that's Jackson. This is has become a weird ramble that I'm not even sure makes sense or has to do with my original point /o\
Plus, I'm pretty sure Stiles is never going to be with Lydia? Like I ship it but mostly in the world of fanfic (not that I've read fanfic for them, there's not much, so I guess in the world of headcanon), but the showrunners have said Stiles will never "be a werewolf, play lacrosse, or kiss a girl" (which I'm honestly hoping is coded language to mean he'd kiss a boy, don't mind me) so I am not really expecting Stiles/Lydia? Which makes me pretty comfortable on the grounds of Stiles "nice guy" ness. Like, I ship it because Stiles worships the ground she walks upon (and I think he does put her on a pedestal and he needs to fix that, but I really enjoy that Stiles consistently appreciates her intelligence, and no other boy at school seems to appreciate that), and I want them to team up because they are both very intelligent and would make a great team and then TAKE OVER THE WORLD. So. Yeah. Those are my feels.
