look for the girl with the broken smile (caroline/elena)cassiehayesMarch 30 2011, 23:47:32 UTC
Elena used to be more fun.
Caroline knows how awful and insensitive that sounds, but it doesn’t stop her from missing the girl her friend used to be. She gets it, she honestly does, how much it sucks when something happens to your family, when everything changes. Her dad left her mom for his new boyfriend, and if that’s not all kinds of screwed up, she doesn’t know what is.
She made up for it by throwing herself into every social club at school, putting on short dresses, curling her hair, and flirting with the cutest boys in Mystic Falls. She smiles, and basically acts like everything’s just fine in the hopes that she can convince herself too.
Elena doesn’t smile.
Elena withdraws from the world, spends days in her bedroom, and when she does emerge she makes no pretence at having the energy - or desire - for any of the distractions Caroline suggests - “I just bought this awesome nail-polish, it’ll look great on you”... “There’s a party at the Lockwoods’ and Tyler says he’s gonna get a keg”... or even just “It’s so nice out, come on

Oooh, I love your Katherine. She's just so terrible.
It’s quick: Katherine gives her some blood, snaps her neck, and she has a blood bag waiting when Elena wakes up all groggy and hungry. She looks on, bored, as Elena greedily sucks down the blood and her eyes turn dark. Now they truly are indistinguishable.
This bit hit me right in the gut. Awful, but in an amazing way. Thank you!
"Then tell me." She turned suddenly Elena on him, her eyes going soft and concerned, her hand gently clasping his arm. "It's all right, Damon, you can tell me."
alslsjdlsjdls, this whole fic is genius, pure genius, and confusion of Katherine/Elena for Damon is so palpable, as he tries not to be affected but he can't, they look identical, she could be Elena - and I love how it shows so well how completely things have changed, how now it's Katherine that looks like Elena, as far as he's concerned.
I HAVE DISCOVERED A GREAT LOVE FOR WRITING KATHERINE. I ADORE HER.
And thank you! :D This ended up being very Damon/Elena in a way - I think because I see Elena as Damon's real weak spot now but the whole Katherine/Elena thing must be such a psychological mess for him, especially when Katherine uses it against him.
So this is way, way late, sorry, but I just wanted to say that yep, people are still welcome to post fills; I've been having trouble with my laptop and internet access lately so I haven't really been able to take action with this, I'll probably close it when I can get my own stuff sorted but for now, yeah, go ahead ^^ Annnnd that said, asljdskdhsdskj, wow, I absolutely loved this fill, unf, Katherine and Damon are just so much fun and you write them spectacularly, they both feel so vivid and true to their characters and I love just the little things in your descriptions, you write so beautifully ♥
