So I've been noticing that around my flist, Twilight, the book seems to be a big hit.
I read it a while ago and wasn't terribly impressed. However I am planning to read the next two books, to see any improvement. New Moon sounded vaguely interesting. I am curious to see what they do with the movie. I think if I recall correctly, MTV or something like that bought the rights. I cringed.
:waits for brimstone:
Granted, there were some elements I enjoyed, but the heroine, Bella, got on my nerves pretty much throughout the whole book. More so since it was written in First POV. Edward Cullen was a bit more compelling as well a few others, but the whole story overall, quite trite. Writing wise too. And given at the target audience I shouldn't be surprised at that kind of writing. But...I remember and have read books for that age group, and they were pretty damn good. Writing and character development both.
I think it've worked better if the author wrote the story in third POV. Very few writers know how to do 1st POV well. But it just seems so overdone--vampires etc least with the plot. It's hard to find something refreshing in that supernatural/fantasy genre now. Given not something original because nowadays it hardly ever is, but a new POV or spin on the idea is always good to read.
Just wasn't my cup of tea. And I am not a big fan of tea.
