Orientation

Aug 05, 2005 03:35

Well, things are going interestingly at orientation. I met my roomie...who seems to be...energetic. So much so in fact that she bruised my arm with her constant dragging me around--literally. Seems she's so excited about things that she doesn't trust me to follow along on my own. I'm not sure she likes me so much. But I've met friends of hers, Read more... )

Well I'm still standing behind the booth, watching the girls catch up and interact. It seems there's yet another one they know, Sophie, who from her accent must be from England. She and Janice are carrying on a conversation and when they mention my name and look over at me, I smile and just sort of wave, not wanting to interupt. Then, walking around the table I start to walk over to the water fountain that's not too far.

Oh my god! It's so perfect, he's going off on his own!! I go to follow, 'accidentally' bumping into his arm with my chest. "Oh I'm so sorry." I say, laughing. "Like, I had a question, is there a sister sorority for your fraternity?" I ask, looking up at him with a big smile.

Something I just figured out? Trying your best not to cringe is very difficult. She had to follow me. Super. And worst of all, she does the whole giggly bump into me deal, which is just more annoying. Though her question is valid, I guess. Truthfully, I was thinking about it but haven't really looked into it yet. "Er, not sure yet, Cecile. Maybe in the future."

"Oh really? Because if you need any help, totally feel free to just call me, cuz my mom was in a sorority when she was in college, and so like, I know all about it and could be a super help." I say. He's so hot.

"Oh, um...cool." I manage to say, trying not to sound too uninterested. After all, I don't want to be rude. All I'm saying is if she happens to get sick and can't make it to our party? It'll be less pain for everyone, I think. Wait. Call her? Would that require actually getting her number?

"I'll be nearby, I think, with what'sername." I say, and pull out my phone number from my pocket, handing it over. "So here you go! I added my cell too, just so you can call me any time you feel like it!"

I pass a fake grin and take the phone number, transferring it to the right pocket of my jeans. "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." Y'know, would it really be so bad if I happened to wash my jeans with the paper still in them? It would all be an accident, of course. "And your roomie? Her name's Cassie, she seems really cool. You're lucky, you know. Some people get stuck with the roommate from hell." Not gonna mention any names.

I glance over at her. "I dunno. She's nice n stuff I guess. But she's so like, retro." I say. "Retro was out ages ago. And the colored hair thing? Can we say eighties?" I sigh.

I shrug, looking back over at the others for a moment before turning back towards Cecile. "Everyone has their own style." I say simply.

"Yeah, but some people's sucks." I say. Then I smile. "I like yours though. You've got that...cool, laid back kind of style." Not that I really know what I mean by that, but it seems like the thing to say.

I have to stop myself from rolling my eyes at her first comment. Later she starts complimenting me though, which is um, nice I guess. "Thank you. You've got a..." Er. "...neat one yourself."

"Thanks!" I say. "We should so go out some night. Are you free soon? We could go to the bronze or something, right? Or wait, there are probably cooler places around here to go."

And what I was deathly afraid of has whacked me in the face. What to say, what to say... "Um, yeah." Okay, now I'm smacking myself in the face. Gotta save this somehow. "We should all go," I say quickly after. "The others...to hang out. Or something. A group thing." And here comes the long internal dramatic sigh. Saved.

I look over and see Cecile's got Wyatt cornered, and he looks very unhappy about it. I walk a little closer to them. "Cecile, I think I saw a girl that might be your friend Dawn over that way..." I say, and point in the direction off towards the library. "Maybe she's lost?" I suggest.

"Oh really? Where? Oh I'll go look for her, thanks, Casey." I say. "You'll love Dawn! I'll be right back!" I say to Wyatt, winking at him and heading off.

Yick, she winked at me. At first I thought I saved myself, but looks like Cassie did the job a whole lot easier. "Thanks," I breathe out with relief. "She was just starting to suggest a date."
