Okay, so here is a kind of photo update of what I did this weekend.
I'm warning you, there are about 10 million pictures here, and they aren't interesting, so if you have a dial-up computer or you just don't want to look at a million boring/shitty pictures of LA and a bunch of random colleges then I don't think you should bother clicking the cut.
This is where I went:
The blue line is supposed to show how I went south, and the purple line (which is hard to see, unfortunatly, but it's usually on the south/west of the blue line along the coast) shows how I came back north. Now, it may not look like too far, but that's a long way dammit.
So this is basically what all of California looks like:
Cal Poly:
UC Santa Barbara:
Mmmmmm Traffic (this is what driving in LA looks like)!
Occidental College (which happens to be situated in the middle of the ghetto, sort of):
(view from campus, I ♥ smog)
Random shots of Claremont Collges:
The City of Angels:
Santa Monica:
Malibu! If I liked God I'd go to Pepperdine because it's seriously the most amazing place I've ever been. the pictures I took didn't do it justice, so I was lazy and only uploaded one.
Soooo, I drove down to San Luis Obisbo to see Cal Poly, which was alright... I don't really like the campus, but the town is cute or whatever. Then we went to UCSB which has the most amazing location ever. The dorms seriously have ocean views, and it's soooo pretty.
Then, the next day I drove down into LA to Occidental College (just north of downtown). It's kind of in a sketchy part of town, but it's so old and neat looking. Like a mini-oasis in the city. Thennnn we drove like, another hour to Claremont, which is North-East LA, to visit the Claremont Colleges. They were alright, kind of out in the middle of nowhere. Pomona is really beautiful, but I wasn't really too impressed.
Then, we went to Santa Monica, which was very crowded, and then Venice Beach which was FUCKING INSANE. I brought my camera, but I felt too silly to take pictures of all the crazy people. On one site of the street (the ocean side) there were street vendors and pan-handlers (I saw at least 3 people begging for weed, ha), and on the other side there were head shops and tattoo parlors. Like, I can't even describe it because it was just nuts. There were also a bazillion rollar skaters, which I found really odd. I've never really seen people roller skating before?
After that we drove up through Malibu, which was pretty, but very overrated. I mean, there were nice places, but for the most part it was just a lot of people. The nicest part of Malibu was probably the Pepperdine campus, which is basically the most amazing place I've ever been.
Anddd thennnnnn today we drove all the way back up the coast from Santa Barbara to Carmel through Big Sur, which was neat because none of that land it built on and it's just really damn pretty.
So, this trip was interesting. I think that I saw at least 1,000,000 cars... which was certainly a new experience for me. I seriously saw more people this weekend than I've ever seen in my life. The more time I spend in California, the more I like Oregon. I mean, the vibe in Southern California is so tense, unfriendly, and agressive (even compared to Northern California). Everybody is just in survival mode.
Okay, sorry about not cutting the rest of that entry. I wanted to make it readable without bothering you with my lame pictures.
