Disgusted

I am no doubt going to be the one sour spot among the folks on my Friends list, because I am not totally thrilled with the way events went tonight. It wasn't the election itself that made me unhappy as much as it was the media coverage.
Watching the results... )

I agree that I'd be very interested in knowing what statistical models the networks use, since it does indeed seem odd that they'd call certain states with such small percentages.

That said, they didn't call a single one wrong, so whatever they're doing obviously has some basis in hard data. Whether that means it's the way they should be doing it, I couldn't say.

I disagree about McCain's concession, though. Once the numbers have reached the point where you can't win, I think the only legitimate thing to do is concede.

MSNBC's website last night was very peculiar at times. It would show a result sometimes with "0% reporting". At more than one point, in a given state, someone show 48% to the other's 53%, and the site would have the green check mark next to the guy with 48%. (I tried to get some screen captures of the weirdness, but couldn't.)

He's already given a speech conceding the election, but the people want him for president. What could he do then?

Accept the presidency, of course.

Concession speeches are not legally binding documents, and they are based on the understanding that one has failed to carry the electoral college. Should that change, the speechwriters for both camps get another workout and life goes on.
