Kiev. August 19. INTERFAX-UKRAINE - According to Kiev's data, a thousand people are kept as prisoners by the militia in the East of Ukraine, but in reality this number may be much higher, believes an advisor to the deputy minister of defense of Ukraine on the topic of releasing POWs and hostages Vasily Budyk.
"1007 people, which are present in our lists according to the situation by yesterday, I think that this is just a small part (of prisoners)," - he told during the "round table" in Kiev on Tuesday.
"If today there's certain understanding how many of our soldiers and officers are kept as prisoners, then the problem of civilians and journalists is global," - said he.
Besides, V. Budyk directed the attention to the fact that many people who were already released from captivity don't have the documents that confirm their identity.
"The question about legalization, obtaining documents, many live where they can, follow a half-starved way of live; it's good that volunteers help some of them, but this is a systemic problem," - said he.

PS. And I recall how some of us were laughing when the militia stated that they stopped counting the prisoners already and the number is in the thousands. Actually, by August the losses of all categories (dead, wounded, POWs, deserters, MIAs) became so appalling that it is no longer possible to cover them up in any way.
