The pot calling the kettle black

Feb 20, 2015 20:59

By the first anniversary of shooting people in Kiev the junta quite predictably reacted to the accusations that it were the snipers from the opposition side who were directed by Parubiy who shot the riot police officers and the protesters. The junta reacted on the principle of a pot calling the kettle black, openly announcing through Poroshenko's mouth that it wasn't even the Yanukovich regime that stood behind the shooting but Russia itself and that Surkov personally directed the snipers.

Reuters gives the Ukraine's president Friday's announcement. According to him, "The Prosecutor General's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine have identified clear Russian trace in the fusillade of Maidan. Investigation has finally gained access to the records of private phone conversations between Yanukovych and Russian power structures. They were preparing to the fusillade beforehand." - noted Poroshenko. "Recently, the Security Service informed me that interrogated "Alpha" warriors gave testimony that Assistant to the President of Russia Vladislav Surkov had commanded the groups of foreign snipers on Maidan." - announced Poroshenko. He said these words on Friday during the ceremony of awarding state orders to the members of the "families of the Heavenly Hundred", who perished on Maidan last winter. The full text of the president's announcement is given http://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/32316.html on the website of Poroshenko's administration.

[Note from the translator: it is interesting that the English version of Poroshenko's website uses the archaic term "fusillade" to refer to the shootings. What happened there wasn't "fusillade", i.e., a well-organized series of gunshots is executed by an order of some commanding officer (yep, Surkov) very quickly, but rather a number of precision shots carried out by professional snipers over several hours. There were also people who died of assault rifle fire and from the fire of hunting rifles in the ensuing chaos. But a "fusillade" it was not. Essentialy, whoever is in charge of translating his announcements is trying to create a false narrative of the past events by choosing inappropriate words. I believe that using such a carefully selected archaic term to construct a false narrative is just too good to be done by the Ukrainian translators who are non-native English speakers.]

PS.  It is remarkable that the factual evidence on the involvement of not just the Russian snipers but even the factual evidence of the invovelement of Yanukhovich's regime is missing completely. Meanwhile, the former head of the investigation and the current gauleiter of the occupied areas of the LPR Moskal was photographed together with one of the snipers who participated in the shooting; also there was various evidence that suggested that the fire on the security officers and the protesters was opened from the side of "Euromaidan", including the hotel "Ukraine".

Actually, on the background of yet another military catastrophe and the inability to present a coherent result of the investigation (which was a hoax to begin with because the investigation was done by effectively the same forces that were involved in the shooting on the 20th of February) to the society it is quite natural that the junta brought up the topic of the "Russian trace", which they tried to spin a number of times last year by trowing in fairy-tales of "the Russian Spetsnaz is coming to Borispol", "there traces of Russian involvement were found on Maidan", and similar nutty BS.

It is not quite clear why they attached Surkov to this investigation, who regularly flew into Kiev to resolve the conflict peacefully and who got the first Minsk agreements done, long and tedious. Apparently this is a sign that there will be no more negotiations with Surkov. Despite all the "love" for Surkov's persona, it is quite hard to imagine that a civilian administrator would give the orders directly to the Russian or the Ukrainian special forces. For this there are always people of special qualifications, who will give the orders and see them through, like it was with the case of Parubiy and the snipers who actually shot the people. Considering the fact that an open American agent Nalivaychenko announced the accusations, it is quite clear from where this wind is blowing.

Overall, we are seeing the classic situation from the category of "the pot calling the kettle black". It is clear that it will be quite hard to the junta to wash away the accusation of being involved in the mass killings of the February 20th [Note from the translator: this refers to the mass killings of the "Euromaidan" protesters and, which is rarely mentioned, of the riot police officers that were committed by the "Euromaidan" snipers, the "Euromaidan" protesters, the riot police officers, and possibly by the snipers from the Ukrainian security services].

Note from the translator:

This translator has his own theory as to why it was deemed necessary to accuse Mr. Surkov of ordering the shootings of Maidan protesters. In Moscow Putin essentially showed Mr. Surkov to Merkel and Hollande as somebody who is responsible for dealing with the Ukrainian situation and as somebody with whom technical consultations can be conducted. Thus, the USA and their Kiev puppets are trying to undermine Surkov's status as a negotiator-in-chief by making it impossible for the Europeans to negotiate with him.
