The biggest predicament of current world is the symmetry between flow of problems and opportunities and asymmetry in their nature. Both multiply as sentences in Llull's machine, cogs being moved and products always being completely new to the world. With opportunities it is welcome even when some will lie in wait, with problems it is scary because not every will do the same. It is not that bad for some nicety to be undiscovered or forgotten unless the solution to new problem crucially depends on existence of that nicety. But as new problems require at least somewhat new solutions and when aggregate mindful attention of the world is limited, it is a problem by itself.
To be less abstract, say everybody cares about known set of problems: climate change, antibiotics, certain social problems. Some look at intersections between those problems (just as people look for new discoveries between scientific fields), but as problems multiply, interactions become denser and chance of something horrible AND unattended until it is too late becomes larger. That does not happen with niceties of life: unattended joint between rap and people on banknotes can wait for it for a long time without any observable effect on the outside world (symmetry is greater from the POV of "alternative utilities", but it is not perfect because covert problems still act on the world, while solutions do not).
