I'm not in Iowa anymore...

Orientation was awesome, stressful and the longest two days in a very long time. But insanely awesome. Cincinnati is so completely different from Iowa, Ames and Iowa State. First of all there are these gorgeous hills just completely covered in trees just outside the city. Trees and hills people! And the roads aren't straight and they go at really odd angles. They also don't like to label their streets (totally serious) but I'm sure I will get used to that. Once I find the names of the streets out.

So, orientation. Met fun, crazy architecture people. Almost all the people that are out-of-staters are in the program. Nobody from Iowa though. In fact, I didn't meet anyone from Iowa the entire time during orientation. All the Ohio people think I'm crazy though - "so what do you actually do there?".

The whole campus is crazy compact, with the football stadium and baseball field in the middle of the campus. They're currently building a brand new rec center. It has 3 swimming pools and other stuff. I didn't really pay attention to the other facts since I was too busy thinking "three pools? what do they use the other two for?".

The compactness of Cincinnati is more than made up in stairs. I am going to have some buff legs because you don't actually walk horizontically, you take stairs everywhere. Winter will be fun. The Ohio people were telling me that they get 3 or 4 inches they close all the schools because they panic from "all the snow".

It was actually a lot easier to meet new people than I thought it would be. All you had to do was ask where you're from or what program you're in and bam! instant conversation. I met so many new people and there was always someone to eat with or talk to. Got some cell #s and emails and I already know some people in my classes.

My new email address is kurkalaa@email.uc.edu and I'll stop checking my old one in a few weeks.

I will upload some pictures of UC later since I am in Carbondale currently and the pictures are still in my camera. Thank god for free internet access at the hotel. More on Carbondale when I actually get to leave the hotel.
