Wii!

Got to Target at midnight on Saturday. Froze my butt off. Left to go get my sleeping bag and extra blankets. Came back to same spot in line. Still froze butt off. Got zero sleep. Tried to work on school projects, but snow falling on a laptop does not a productive environment make. Played DS but fingers got too cold.

IT WAS ALL COMPLETELY WORTH IT

The Wii is every bit as incredible as I had hoped. The interface is so intuitive, I have watched several friends, one who has not played video games since Duck Hunt, pick up the remote and begin playing Wii Sports with a degree of skill in minutes. Best Friend got so into it during tennnis that he actually jumped and swung the remote, smacking my ceiling fan in the process. Including Wii Sports was one of many excellent decisions Nintendo made for this launch, because it provides a quick way to get acclamated to the controls. I'll be taking this to Thanksgiving and I have no doubt that everyone in my family will be playing.

The interface for the Wii Channels is very useful. Creating a Mii (your personal avatar) is very fun and ridiculously customizable. I've already downloaded one NES game: Mario Bros (no, not Super Mario Bros, think the arcade-type game often called "POW" because of the "Pow" block in the middle). The fact that I can simply turn the remote on its side and use it as a (albeit, somewhat lengthened) NES controller is fantastic.

Finally, the real reason I purchased the system. Zelda: Twilight Princess. You may be shocked to discover that it is still in the plastic wrap. I have three fairly sizable projects due today. Two of four classes have been cancelled, one I'm skipping to finish a project, I have once class this afternoon, a group meeting to finish up a lab, and finally a rehearsal for my men's ensemble until 9. At that point, I am calmly walking home, calling two of my friends together along with Roommate who simply want to watch and inserting Zelda in the lovely vacuum disc loader on the Wii. I don't think I'll stop playing for a long, long time.
