already loving this day

Jul 21, 2006 06:57

This day rocks so hard on paper that it just can't help but be a great day.

I'll work from 8-11. Around 11, my entire tem will be leaving for a Team Fun Event. This is not your typical Corporate Approved Fun.

We are heading to the local Rock Bottom - a microbrewery and restaurant with great beer and good food - for lunch. After lunch the entire team is heading to Lakefront Brewery for the Lakefront Brewery Tour. This is one of the best things to do in Milwaukee if you even like beer a little. The people at Lakefront Brewery - a smaller brewery in Milwaukee's Riverwest district - are absolutely passionate about their beer. You can sample their goods as often as you like during the tour, although usually it ends up being about 3 or 4 pints. Their beer is exquisite and by far my favorite beer to date. Each of their varieties - from their light Cattail Ale to their Eastside Dark s very flavorful and very unique. The tour has been voted the Best Brewery Tour in Milwaukee - yes, even better than Miller - for several years running. I can't wait.

Finally, as if lunch and a brewery tour aren't enough, most of the team is then heading to Festa Italiana. As many of you know, Milwaukee is often called the City of Festivals because we have so very many festivals during the summer. Besides Summerfest, the worlds largest music festival, we have several ethnic festivals: Asian Moon Fest, Germanfest, Irishfest, Bastille Days, etc. During a typical Milwuakee summers, there are very few weekends in which there is not a festival going on. This weekend is Festa Italiana, my favorite of them all. Given my obsession with Italian food and my recent trip to Italy, you can imagine how disappointed I was when I thought I would miss Festa altogether because of ARGfest! However, as bummed as I am I won't arrive in Chicago for ARGfest until 10:30, I am extremely happy to get just a taste of Festa this year. There's incredible (mostly authentic) Italian food everywhere you turn, Italian music playing or being performed all throughout the festival grounds, Itaian Opera in one of the tents, Italian wine flowing as if we were on a vinyard, and Italian dancers and other performing entertainers with crowds encircled around them. It is fantastic.

After spending only a few hours there, I'll head to the local Amtrak station where I'll meet up with
phaedra_amunet and hop on a bus that will take us to Union Station in Chicago. From there we'll catch a ride on the 'L and join the rest of the gang for ARGfest 2006.

Like I said, this day rocks so hard (at least on paper) that it can't not be one of the greatest Fridays ever. We'll just ignore the fact that I decided to play Halo until 1:30 and then add some fun formatting to the ARGfest Info Pack that varin created until 3:30 getting only 3 hours of sleep. Yes. Yes, we'll ignore that. Someone keeps telling me sleep is for the weak anyway.
