However, this gig report contains only:
I liked their sound- it was sexy, but you could pogo to their music too. I like how their vocalist moved, and the interaction between the band members. The guitarist and the vocalist are engaged. I really can't remember much about their set, except that I liked it a lot.
It's kind of like I've heard them somewhere before. Their sound was okay. Nothing exceptional. But okay. Like, I wouldn't mind listening to their album, because it wasn't bad. It just isn't an album I would listen to over and over.
I liked their sound. It was a bit like Owl City meets Feist. Kind of mellow and sweet. I didn't listen closely to their songs though. But I almost bought their album. And I think I would've listened to that shit over and over.
Most awaited band! HAHA. They didn't play the Fish Song but they did play Hmm/Mr. Music Maker, which I love kind of a lot. Catcor was really cute- she spent the first song or two sitting down, and people crowded close and cheered. I love Arigato! Hato's sound, and their whole calm, but biting aesthetic.
I still can't decide if I love them or not. Their sound is good, and I like Mich Dulce's vocals but sometimes Quark Henares' overreaches and aims for outside his range with... mixed results. But I like them, I do. Their beats are solid and head-boppy (is this a word? Well, if Stephen Colbert can have truthiness...) and again
(Again, I'm reminded of how small my world is sometimes, thanks to Ateneo. I'm member of an org started by Quark, and I'm friends and part-time mentor (yeah right) to Wincy's little sister Gracie. Oh life.)
So, Itchyworms. I only know like... one song of theirs. The one with the video with my friends in it hugging randomly. HAHA. They've got a good sound, and a solid fanbase, though the whole wearing sunglasses at night thing still kind of throws me off.
What can I say? I LIKE Pedicab. It's so... nice? Awesome? To see Raimund Marasigan pogo-ing and rocking on his keytar. I've always had this inordinate fondness for him, maybe because of my girlcrush for Myrene. HAHA. I love how Pedicab fans are crazy- this one guy had to be dragged out by the bouncers. HAHA. They played a Nine Inch Nails cover, then Ang Pusa Mo and Dito Tayo sa Dilim, I think. Loved dancing crazily to them. Though it was a bit awkward when the bouncers got all scary and pushed me and a bunch of other girls back. BOO.
SO I started the night alone (The Flake Report: Rage wins again. Karen
donutclick had no transpo and Redej
incalicoskies was princess-and-frogging. I WANT ALSO. No, scratch that, I want WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. MAAAAX! :D :D :D) Then I texted Catcor, but before she could text me where to find her, I spotted Ate Tinka (flower in her hair! awesome dress!) so I texted her too. Met a couple of her friends (okay, her friend, and the friend's Swiss cousin who kind of reminded me of Paolo). Hung out at Sputnik for awhile (have never been there while it was open. FIRST! They had DMZ and Scott Pilgrim 5. I cannot wait for Scott Pilgrim 6. The big finale!)
Then I met Ren (sp?) who WATCHED METAMORPHOSES. Not only that, he watched my reading of Chimaera at the Heights booklaunch. Before watching Metamorphoses! HAHA. Rage overdose or what. He said he really liked when I went out and talked with the audience and I kind of went \o/ FTW! That's... twice in two days I got recognized as Little Girl. HAHA. Awesomesauce.
Anyway. Ate Tinka and Arianne and Albert had to go to some party in Makati, and I couldn't come with because of stupid curfew, so I went looking for Catcor again (I could write a poem on that) annnd... bumped into Vicious~! Who was with his high school friend and his girlfriend. So I had someone to hang out with again, since I think Vicious was feeling like a third wheel or something. HAHA. Outerhope was finishing their set then, so Arigato was up next.
(Sidebar: Most of the crowd at Meiday were hipster scene kids, which I didn't mind. But some of the people there were also jerks. Case in point. Some asshole with a DSLR sees Vicious' friend and his girl making out. Other people saw them too, but whatever you know, no biggie. This asshole points his camera at them, without permission, and snaps. Luckily the girl behind him shoved him so he didn't get a good picture. The flash distracted Vicious' friend and his girlfriend so they looked up, and the asshole covered by aiming his camera the girl behind him. Entitled jerkface. Bawal BV GAGO!)
When I inched closer to the stage for Arigato, I bumped (literally) into Vi-Ann! And Precious' sister Charm. Apparently, Vi's brother was Catcor's boyfriend. What a small world. Or not, since their batchmates and everything. So! Catcor was awesome and cute, but then Vi was leaving and she didn't have her phone, so I went back to Vicious, who treated me to a drink (muchos gracias~!)- there was a weird moment when some French (?) tourist touched my head (I was wearing my blue, black and white striped beanie) and said, "Cool! Cool!" and I just said, "Er, THANK YOU!" then hightailed it out of there.
And then we (me and Vicious, fortified with prom punch) tried to find a good place to watch Itchyworms. I looked at the stuff in The Junkie Shop stall for a bit, since the view was okay-ish, but we couldn't linger, so we snuck around to the back for a better view. I saw Bianca and Kasey too- I think we all went home with the same shirts. WOO MEIDAY! I plan to cut the collar out of mine, as it's a little big to be comfy.
Pedicab's set was wild, like I said earlier, but not as wild as when Raimund Marasigan pulled himself up onto an amp and stage-dived. But like, no one caught him, I think, so that was a bit awkward. Heh.
(Sidebar: What I didn't like about the Pedicab set were these two girls who I don't think knew Mei - who was running the whole event, I don't know her either but I don't go up to her and nearly shove her off the stage with my bad dancing- but were taking up stage space. Wannabe scene queens, obvs, like this one girl in a lacy top with a Red Horse in her hand. The other one in the plaid polo wasn't so bad- she didn't act pretentious or cool, so I'm guessing she was the sidekick of Madame Groupie- who offered Diego Mapa her Red Horse (practically shoving it in his face in the small space).
I don't pretend to be scene- I'm not pretty, or well-connected enough, plus I spend most of my time as a straight-edge virgin who goes to gigs for the music and mosh pits. I was an Island of Dork in the Ocean of Pa-Cool- so it was particularly irritating. Especially how they tried to skip the line. BOO! The lines were kind of long when I arrived, and apparently they only got longer.)
Anyhoo~ awesome night! Made up for yesternights awkwardness, at least. I liked the outfit I was wearing too, though I abandoned my Chucks/combat boots for two-and-a-half inch heels, since I'm short and at gigs, all the extra height you can get is a good thing. Left before Taken By Cars and the last three bands, because it was hours after my curfew. HAHA. If I knew that it would've started kind of on time (and it did? An hour and a half is good time. Hee.) then I would've gone earlier. Hot damn.
Tonight made me excited for the amp recital! YAYYY. And took my mind off things I have to get anal about. Dammit. HAHA!
(About last night, in thirty words or less: I ate and he had nothing. That should've been symptomatic. My belly full and my arms empty, I made a few risky choices that cost me nothing, in the end.)
