Back in the 90's when I was a proud studious (cough?) student at UT-Arlington there was a secretary named Gayle that always signed here name GAYle. G-A-Y in big capital letters. Today, I transfered a call to another employee in one of our offices named Gay. I didn't bother to ask if that was short for anything. I did confirm that is how she wanted to be introduced. I got to say "Thank you for holding. I have Gay on the line and she will be assisting from here."
Not to make fun of anyone's name, I'm sure she gets enough already. This really does open up oppurtunities though. Example: "Are you the only Gay there in that office???"
