The French Quarter Cafe: My band attempted to perform here last night. The man running sound was doing a poor job of getting our sound going. Less than 30 seconds into our set, the sound was killed without any explanation, leaving me standing there with a mic in my hand looking like an idiot. I made a few jokes about it to keep things rolling while he fumbled with turning it back on. Without any prior explanations or warnings, the owner marched up to me, grabbed my shirt and threatened to "slap the shit out of me" if i said anything else. They continued twiddling knobs for a few minutes while a room full of people sat quietly waiting to be entertained before telling me to just pack up my things and leave. I was then immediately threatened by the bartender and taunted by the entire staff as i left the venue.
I admit that maybe it's not the best idea to heckle the sound guy, but to my defense, he heckled me first by disrupting my very first song in less than 30 seconds. A simple explanation would have given me something better to tell the audience to say the least. Threatening and embarrassing clients is hardly a professional way to handle business. I've heard nothing but horrible stories from other musicians who've played there. I'm not calling for a boycott or any sort of ill will against the place, just issuing a friendly warning to anyone thinking about playing or even going there.
i want to apologize to the folks who showed up and paid to get in. you were jipped by unprofessional jerk offs and you deserve your money back for just having to witness such a disgustingly mishandled event.
