Yesterday kicked off the my summer theatre season with Spamalot!

First a little history: the first compact disc I ever bought was Monty Python; The Final Rip Off. Well, I am still happy to ripped off by this group. And trust me: they were ripping me off by recycling a Life of Brian song in the middle of the Holy Grail story (in fact now that I think about it - I am surprised they didn't also find a way to use "Every Sperm is Sacred"). There are some new, very funny, and very irreverent songs ("You Won't Succeed on Broadway") but not a ton of new material. Terry Jones said of it: "It's full of air... Regurgitating Python is not high on my list of priorities." Terry probably wouldn't enjoy my offices adaptation of The Spam Cafe for Lotus Notes. I mean really - who doesn't enjoy regurgitating the occasional Python? More history: I used to conduct interviews for the school paper by asking: What is your name? What is your quest? What is your favorite color? If you love John Cleese and think only he can do the French Taunter properly, you will be disappointed. OTOH, if you think John Cleese is god - this is the show for you. Too much history: John Cleese was on my list for awhile (it wasn't laminated though).

Our seats ... well ... I had to look up the definition of nosebleed section but that is definitely where we were sitting (last row of the balcony). You know it is bad when the usher looks at your tickets and says "Oh! Do you know where these are? Go to the bathroom first because you won't be able to keep climbing up and down".

Okay I can't write reviews like
coffeefortwo but I did enjoy the show.

Next up: Eleemosynary
