Black History Month, Myers Street School (SECOND WARD)

Feb 02, 2005 18:30

History is important. I say no more. Which is why I'm evil and not putting it behind a lj-cut. Yell at me if you want. Actually, do yell at me. I need to feel loved by comments. Michael should most definitely comment. Otherwise....horrible consequences will ensue.

I used to love the events my school in London had for Black History month. I always love to hear the story of Rosa Parks.

Black history month is the best! I just love hearing all those stories, the one about Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcolm X, all of them!

That picture and blurb of writing is actually from my local newspaper, The Charlotte Observer. Last year they published a photo each day by a black photographer (a very great one who died last year) named James Peeler. He was a native of Charlotte, so you can figure out how he was put into the paper. Actually, he died in January, missing out on seeing all his beautiful photos in the paper for 28 days.

I just think that the whole thing about how they took down part of their history was fascinating, since it can be seen that way.

Thumbs up on the icon! <3

I know, I used to love studying Black History &. American history at my school in London. Too bad I moved to a place which isn't really big on celebrating multicultural diversity :[

Thankyou, I gave the shoes a miss this month - the new pretty ones I got hurt my feet so I'm angry with them.

Ah, diversity is so great. I miss it actually. Last semester I went to a campus where there were so many different types of people from all over the world. At the campus I'm at now, it's mostly preps and rich kids and hicks (sad, but true). they aren't horrible though. I just am used to diversity, at least, I feel as if I am.

Aww! I hate pretty shoes that hurt, it's just....wrong. Pretty shoes should be comfortable, too!

Raaar, put it behind a--- no, I'm completely kidding, I'm glad you didn't cut it.

That last statement is pretty sad. Imagine looking back on something you've done and being able to say it was taking down a part of history. =(

ahaa, that made me giggle! :D

That last statement was the whole reason I had to post it. It's just so sad, because he's really right. And unfortunately, my stupid local paper didn't have the picture on their website, so i had to take pictures of the newspaper itself! Pisses me off, aha. :\

Hahaha... yeah, it's Jacqueline Onassis. I just finished a book on the Kennedys by one of Jackie's cousins, and I absolutely adore the former first lady.

The word thing happens to me ALL the time... moreso lately than ever before. I figure it's either stress or early Alzheimer's.

I always love the pictures you post. I'm glad you didn't put it behind a cut. Totally awesome and a needed reminder. I hate when I see racism in action. I become so enraged!
