Dani´s birthday

Yesterday was the last day of classes at the guardaria so Alejandra threw a big party for Dani. A Batifiesta! Everything was batman. I took tons of photos and will post them on webshots. It was great. I was really happy to see the kids again. When I came into the room they yelled, "Tessa!" I am happy that they like me. So as the party started gathered around the little tiny table with the little tiny chairs they had chips and coke. Then the entertainment arrived. A lady dressed like a ragdoll came in and she put on music and started dancing with the kids. They loved it. They were laughing and jumping up and down. She played a lot of games with them and gave out prizes. One game she asked them to say "El corazon de la corazoneria." And it was a bit of a tongue twister for the little kids. They would say "comiseria" or "carniceria." It was funny. Then Alejandra pointed to me and said "la Tessa!" I just shook my head "no" and the kids laughed because they have figured out that I talk funny and probably couldn´t say it. (Later when I was by myself I practiced it and said it correctly.) Then Barney came. The kids were so happy. They thought it was the real Barney. They danced with him and sang the spanish version of the "I love you. You love me" song. Then there was a puppet show. The ragdoll lady would mix up the story book characters names calling Blanca Nieves (Snow White) Flaca Nieves and so on. The kids laughed and laughed like it was the silliest thing they had ever heard. Then there was the cake. After Dani blew out the candles they did this thing were everyone sings "Mueve el pastel" (not sure if I spelled that right) which means bite the cake and Dani leaned forward to bite off a piece of the cake and they pushed his face into it. Sillyness. Everything was great. The kids were having so much fun. Then the lady painted the kids faces. They were so happy.

Then last night, to celebrate Margara finishing her last day of classes, Gato and Julio came over and we played cards and drank this stuff called Switch. Switch is a 2 liter screw top bottle that contains vodka and Maracuya juice. It is not expensive kind of stuff, but I gotta say, I thought it was pretty good. We played a card game where when you drew a 5 you had to do a penitencia. Which translates into, you have to do something embarassing. There is no caller ID here so there was a lot of prank calling. Gato called someone and said, "Good evening. I am happy to tell you that you have won a song. (then he sang.)" It was so funny. Then they made me call Maragara´s friend and sing "Gringo loco." I am not sure why but this was hilarious to them. We had a lot of fun. Later we went down to the Mariscal area and bought another premixed bottle of Aguardiente, Peaches and milk. Again, really good.

Then this morning we woke up early and went to the neighborhood where Gato´s brother lives to play sports. I am not an athlete. At all. But I played along and tried to do my best. We played basketball for a little while. I didn´t make a single basket. yup. Then we played volleyball. This game I know a little from playing it in middle school. We did pretty good. I got hit in the head once and in the butt another time, but I shook it off and laughed and kept playing. Then we started playing soccer. Ok first, I take back all the mean things I said about Julio´s sister´s team. It is really hard to play soccer. I can´t believe how much running there is! But it is really fun. I made 3 goals. Who knew? I had such a good time. It made me want to practice and get better. We said that we should get together and do it again soon. So hopefully we will.

When we got back, we made burritos for lunch. Margara´s family seems to like my cooking because they keep asking me to make more stuff. They really like the red chile. I am so glad. I get self-consious about my cooking sometimes, but it is well recieved here. Yay.

Tonight is the Gala of the Cantantes on Rojo. Whoa, BIG deal! We have planned the evening around it. I am so excited!

Then tomorrow we are going to see the new house. It is really coming along quickly. I am excited to move into it, but then again, I have become so comfortable here in this house. It will be hard to leave. Also, the new house is pretty far from my job so I will have to take the bus to work instead of walking. Its only a quarter, so money isn´t an issue, but the time is. Oh well. Its only for a little while.
