let's talk about liverpool.

I've been really lazy with this meme as deadlines have crept closer. But hey, that just means less for you to read, so hurrah! I wanted to do this particular entry, though.

Day Twenty-Three - Something that makes you feel better, in great detail.

Liverpool Football Club makes me feel better, even when it is Liverpool Football Club making me want to tear my hair out and/or weep. When things are tough, there's always the wonderful, historic, perfect Liverpool that I've been in love with since the dawn of time. There's Steven Gerrard's tiny forehead and wonder goals and best-player-in-the-world performances and his year-in-the-life, oh lord, his year-in-the-life. There are our legends, amazing players and men like Kenny and Rushie who turn up to every match as fans, and continue to give so much back to a club that they helped to shape. There are quotes like this: "Just look at that grass, boys; it's great grass, it's professional grass" by Bill Shankly. There are the Liverpool shirts I see, without fail, around my neighbourhood the day after every single match, whether we've won or lost. There are the DVDs I made when I learnt how to record things off the TV a few years ago, of matches starring Didi Hamann and Danny Murphy. There are the supporters, who will always be the classiest supporters, with the loudest songs and the biggest hearts. There's the Kop and You'll Never Walk Alone which, through the television screen, makes me shiver. There's God, who can't go a single interview here in Australia without mentioning his home club. There's Luís García's huge smile, John Arne Riise's enormous Norwegian enormousness, Steve Finnan's quiet constancy, Jamie Carragher's end-of-year awards, Djibril Cissé's everything, Álvaro Arbeloa's crazy celebrations, Dirk Kuyt's unforgivable hair. There's the unbelievable Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres - in that, after all this time, I still can't believe they're ours.

There are so many other tiny things about Liverpool FC that make me so, so grateful that this is my club, that these are the boys I look to when I want to be inspired and moved and elated. There are so many that I just can't list them all. Which is probably the thing that makes me happiest.

Other things that cheer me up? The way my dad sings in a high-pitched voice without realising that he's doing it; this coaster given to me by my amazing friend Alex; my kitty; my gorgeous, gorgeous f-listers. ♥

PS This, as my father would say, is 'an interesting development'.
