The sister's were here last weekend and we had a blast. Yankee game on Saturday. We got there 1 1/2 hours early and the line for monument park was already closed (and three levels high--no lie). We got to check out
the moat from afar which was kinda special. Our seats were in the upper tier, right near third base. Fantastic game with a few good plays and a
strange one that we finally found the answer to on Keith Olbermann's baseball blog. Go figure.
I made tacos for dinner, which I love. Sometimes I find it hard to live alone because there are certain things that you can't really cook for one person. So it's always nice when folks are over so I can make something like tacos.
Sunday we went to the city. W (little sister's boyfriend) hadn't been in since he was 10. So we did lots of touristy stuff. A walk through Central Park, the Apple store, FAO Schwartz (hello--had my picture taken with Lego Chewbacca and the Lego cast of Harry Potter!). Before we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge, we stopped in J&R Music for some guitar strings. I have a guitar that I haven't played in about 10 years b/c the saddle is all screwed up. Never made the time to ask anyone about fixing it. So while we were there, I asked the folks at the counter. A nice young man gave me a site to get the part. I was very excited. My sister said he went out of his way to pull a business card out of his wallet to write the site on--thus giving me his name and number. Then, as we were waiting in line, he started to play. She said he was serenading me. I told her she needed to stop smoking so much crack. Come to think of it, he was kinda cute. . .
Anyway, walked over the bridge and back to Manhattan via subway to head over to the Empire State bldg. All day it had been threatening to rain. We were pleasantly surprised when we found out visibility was 10-15 miles. We made our way to Times Square and, feeling extremely pooped and needing to get home to Cooper the wonder dog, we decided to head home.
I love when my family comes to visit. This weekend was rare as we had so much packed into such a short period of time. Normally, there are no real plans. We play things by ear and are happy just sitting around the living room, sharing stories, picking on each other, watching a movie. . .whatever. It's just nice to be with them. And then everyone leaves and it's so quiet and I miss them so much! Being so scattered is hard, but I think it makes the time we do have together so much more fun.
This weekend I'm taking the train down to Richmond (I leave at 3 am from Penn Station!!) where my brother will pick me up and we'll spend the day in a city that I love and miss dearly. He, of course, hates it there. Then we'll head back to Salem where I'll spend the rest of the weekend before bringing the little yellow car back up to NY. One of the things I'm super excited about is that I'm arriving at
Main Street Station which is one my favorite buildings in RVA. It only reopened a few years ago, but it's so dang pretty that I can't wait to stand inside and soak it all in.
