FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CopperCon 31 Presents Quick Update on Programming
Phoenix's premiere Science Fiction convention, CopperCon, is pleased to present a quick update on our Programming Plans
Phoenix, Arizona June 27, 2011 - The Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society (CASFS), sponsor of CopperCon 31 is pleased present a quick over view of our event!
Programming is gearing up and has a few interesting tidbits to share with everyone.
Our Literature track is planning to offer interesting discussions on classic novels, Twilight, Steampunk, and Harry Potter for starters. For those interested in the craft of writing, we’ll have a writing workshop hosted by Janeen O’Kerry, discussion on the current trend of social media and what it offers to writers, and we’ll hear from some published writers and their experiences with online publishing.
We didn’t plan it this way, but it looks like we’ll have 3 or 4 Zombie panels - something about the history of zombie outbreaks, the rise of zombies in comicbooks, and a discussion of the evolution of zombies in our society by a published writer, Robert Nathan Brown who wrote “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Zombies.”
We’re going to try a couple new things for the kids. We’re planning a science-experiment experience, they’ll get to eat cupcakes, and they’ll get to participate in a two-day Pokemon event - everything from claiming a character, to designing a badge or mask, and playing in a tournament.
And programming wouldn’t be complete without a discussion of the new Star Trek movie in the works. Our panelists have the news and the expertise.
Our Science track has professional scientists sharing information about global warming, NASA’s “Dawn” mission with background on asteroids and ion propulsion, and even a discussion of the Russian Lunakohd and the Mars Rover and the Curiosity Rover.
Stay tuned…

Read the latest, just released - Kitty’s Big Trouble by Carrie Vaughn
“Kitty Norville is back and in more trouble than ever. Her recent run-in with werewolves traumatized by the horrors of war has made her start wondering how long the US government might have been covertly using werewolves in combat. Have any famous names in our own history might have actually been supernatural? She's got suspicions about William Tecumseh Sherman. Then an interview with the right vampire puts her on the trail of Wyatt Earp, vampire hunter.
But her investigations lead her to a clue about enigmatic vampire Roman and the mysterious Long Game played by vampires through the millennia. That, plus a call for help from a powerful vampire ally in San Francisco, suddenly puts Kitty and her friends on the supernatural chessboard, pieces in dangerously active play. And Kitty Norville is never content to be a pawn. . . ”

Book Drive
At each Phoenix-area convention at which WesternSFA is present there will be a special donation box near the Fan Table area. We will be collecting books to distribute to homeless children. This donation will place a book directly into the hands of a homeless child for them to keep. This is not a thrift store or a library. The age ranges vary, but we would particularly like to see juvenile fiction. Please take some time to clear your shelves and closets of unneeded books and help a child. We will take anything you bring - if you donate adult fiction, we have an agreement with a local bookseller to exchange adult fiction for juvenile fiction. So keep an eye out for the big Harry Potter donation box.
