I've been meaning to write this up for a few days now, but I've always forgotten. At the end of last week, there were the most wonderful sunrises as I was driving to work. I remembered just now as I opened the living room curtains and saw the sky to the south east. As I got up onto the City Bypass the sky was the most wonderful mix of pink and lilac and pale, pale blue fading into violet, with hints of dark orange in the clouds. As time went on, the pink faded to palest tangerine. I love sunrises and sunsets like this, the mix of colours, but above all just how ephemeral it is. It doesn't stay the same for more than a minute, and pure words can never do it justice.
I can remember thinking, as I drove last week the old adage, red sky in the morning shepherds' warning, and over the weekend we had snow. There was a severe weather warning in place for most of the weekend, and while I don't think it ever got that far here there were certainly blizzards up in the hills. And boy has it been cold! The wind is absolutely bitter. I am just so glad I'm not having to drive all the way to work today - lots of 'only drive if you have to' warnings on the radio, although to be fair those are for further north. Still, I'll stay in the city today I think. The forecast says the snow might stay for Christmas, and with the sky firey red again this morning they just might be right.
