I made the mistake of asking
pmoodie to give me five things that come to mind when he thinks of me. He is, as ever, very flattering. I said I'd write on whatever he came up with, though, so here goes.
Wisdom
Diplomacy
Harry Potter
Singing
Sexy Eyebrows
1. Wisdom. I don't have any more than anyone else. Honest. Maybe my age gives that impression? I do know that resonable people can disagree, that we all are insecure in some ways, that love is a Good Thing, that laughter is also a Good Thing, and that kids are worth the work. I guess that's wisdom?
2. Diplomacy. The key to diplomacy is listening. Really listening. I don't have to agree with the person I'm speaking to, but if that person can tell I'm listening and respect their position/culture/goals, then that person will be more receptive to anything I have to say, too. Listening includes accepting that I may have to change my point of view if I learn something.
3. Harry Potter. The world of Harry Potter creates a place I wish I could visit. I find the characters engaging and the weave of the tapestry fun to unravel. I don't mind that so much of it is formulaic -- there's a reason for archetypes. I think that Rowling has told a story that will endure the test of time because we can project ourselves into it.
4. Singing. I love to sing. I know better than to quit my day job, but I can read music and hold my own in an amateur choir or when playing the guitar. I think that it's a shame that so many people don't sing because they're not great singers. So what? The more you sing, the better you get and it's FUN. If I have the guitar out and you know the words, JOIN IN, for crying out loud. It's more fun that way for all of us. I think everyone has some music inside.
5. Sexy Eyebrows. Paul is the only person EVER to have commented on my eyebrows. I think that says more about him than about my eyebrows. If we ever meet, though, I promise to arch them often. Heck, someone as good looking as Paul notices my eyebrows? Lawks!
