Beck was acting strangely. I tried to check it out, but couldn't see anything wrong. I ignored him. Then, he started making the noises he makes when he has cornered a moth or something. I checked again, and this time I found the small frog -- about an inch-and-a-half long in the body. Given this frog was in my bedroom on the second floor, it is reasonable to assume Beck had caught it in the garden and brought it upstairs. I didn't see any obvious injuries and s/he was able to hop. I caught it, showed it to Matthew, and then released it back into the garden before locking the doors for the night, the cats inside.
I expect Froggy will be OK. There are plenty of bugs out there and plenty of moisture. Given that it came from the garden (I assume. The cats haven't been elsewhere) it should be OK in the garden. I can't guarantee that the cats won't find it again, but it has a good chance, I expect.
After the rains, we always hear a chorus of frogs in our neighborhood. I'm surprised the cats haven't brought one in earlier. I tried to find out what kind of frog it was, but if you google images for Ecuadorian frogs, well, biodiversity is alive and well in Ecuador.
