You know, I was thinking about it recently and raising a kid now kind of blows. A lot of the things I did as a kid are just not possible anymore. Society as a whole has gotten so oversensitive and protective of their individual beliefs that it’s all made growing up so mundane, and boring.
Perhaps I had lax parenting, but I’d go on exploration trips on my bike, take adventures on my little boat out into canals, and trick or treat door-to-door.
Now, some school systems aren’t even allowed to recognize Halloween and let it go by the name of a ‘fall festival” where no candy is allowed due to allergens, and no costumes are allowed due to insensitivity. Allowing your kid Trick-or-treating door-to-door is almost enough to get child protective services to report you.
Christmas break is now “Winter Break” and you have kids refusing to do the pledge of allegiance on principle.
It seems, to me, that our society is gradually turning into that mundane, emotionless environment that some of the “people of the future” films of the 60’s showed us as. Monotone voices, everything is the same, and plain white walls for everyone. I know it’s being a little overdramatic, but it just kind of bums me out.
I’m glad I grew up when growing up was still “fun”
