so last night was super bowl 44, the game was between the saints and the colts. alex pointed out once that he usually cheers for the nfc team because the redskins are in the nfc and i think that i actually unknowingly have done that too [depending on who is playing] but i had no particular favorite in this game. i liked the idea of the saints winning their first time making it to the super bowl but i am also a big fan of peyton manning 1. because his commercials are so damn funny and 2. he is so much cooler than eli. but i still wanted a high scoring, close, good game. it wasn't tremendously high scoring but it was close for the first 3.5 quarters. and it was a really good game. very suspenseful, even for someone who didn't care who won. the saints ended up winning 31-17 after scoring a touchdown and then another touchdown shortly after thanks to an interception.
[and drew brees crying at the end while holding his tiny little son, who was wearing ear muffs because it was so loud, was really cute!]
thinking of the saints makes me think of an entry i have been meaning to post:
on december 6th, alex and i went to the saints/redskins game. it was our 17 month anniversary and we were so excited for the game. we made the trek to fedex field via 495 and there is a part where you can go local or thru. the directions told us to go local but it didn't really matter, the two routes were side by side the whole time with only a guardrail separating them. well lucky we did take local because we ended up right next to this motorcade of three police vehicles, a huge bus filled with men in suits:
an undercover cop car, two suv police vehicles, a regular appearing car and another cop car all in a row. and when the two routes rejoined the last police car was driving in the middle of the road so that no one could pass it and get next to this bus. so, someone(s) pretty official had to be on this bus.
then we get there and start tailgating. we get there somewhat later than we wanted to we didn't have that much time to figure out this grill that we hate so we just had snackies. i was pretty okay with that, though it was so cold out the grill would've been nice to warm up next to. i was pretty bundled up but i was still freezing
.
eventually we head into the game, late as always haha. at the time the saints were still undefeated so we went in thinking we were going to get crushed but we actually started playing well. really well as a matter of fact. we were beating the saints for so much of the game. it was pretty unbelievable. everyone around us kept looking at each other like "is this really happening?!"
it was a very back and forth game, we'd score then them but then us again! we were tied at the end of the 4th and it all came down to a field goal to win the game, to beat the saints, to snatch away their undefeated title ... and leave it to suisham to miss his, like, third field goal of the season [the other two were against dallas, costing us the game] to bring us in to overtime.
it was an exciting overtime, and i actually thought we could pull it off but then the redskins remembered they were the redskins and we lost ... by one field goal. it was really disappointing but it was quite an accomplishment to bring an undefeated team to overtime. and the fact that i was there made it even better. it was a great way to spend our special day together!
