Poor Newt =(  He 'popped a splint'.  I'm not 100% sure what it means, but its not great, haha.  From what my instructor and mom said, its not dangerous *knocks on wood*  He just may be out for a few weeks.

I got out to the barn about an hour before my lesson.  I took a long time grooming and everything.  Newt seemed fine.  He was hunting for cookies and freaking out about bugs as usual.  I was kiling some time talking to my mom when he starts flipping out.  The moron was like...kicking his stomach with his back legs.  Brittany, the feeder, hurried over to him.  He had this huge horse fly on his leg.  She got it off, but he was still freaking out.  Whatever, he's a little strange LOL.

So Lynn arrives and I finish tacking up.  I get to the ring before her, almost step on a stupid toad, and mount.  I walked around for a while.  It was great.  Newt had this beautiful arch in his neck without me even asking.  I was thinking "Oh yeah!  Its about time!"  Lynn gets out to the ring and we walk around and talk for a while (that's how I normally start my lesson).  After I changed direction and then noticed that Newt was walking kind of funny.  I told Lynn who asked me to start trotting him.  He trots for about a step and a half, then stops.  I try about three more times with the same results.  Lynn then says "Make him do it again, I need to see something."  So I ask again, and he trots about two steps.  Lynn says he's lame (meaning he's hurt his leg/hooves/hip/whatever in some way.  Think of a limp) and I hop off.  She starts checking out his right rear leg and tells me about the splint.  Okay, that's just great.  Poor Newty.  He was such a trooper, though.  He was really trying to do what I told him without too much complaint.  Then we got back to the barn.

I had to almost literally wrestle him into the cross ties.  Then I had to take him into the wash stall to cold hose his leg.  Omg I thought he was going to kill me.  He was just fighting me the whole time.  He was totally freaking out for whatever reason.  I got one cross tie on him and then did what I normally do (and will not do again) and went under his neck.  He chose that moment to pretty much charge forward, slamming into my side with his chest.  Luckily I stayed on my feet and he stopped moving.  After that, all was quiet in the was stall.  Then he had to fight me all the way out to his pasture >.<  My back hurts really bad now.

Anyway, everyone think of Newt and hope he gets better soon <3
