Brahm's Requiem - 6th Movement

Dec 10, 2014 16:42

Many years ago I sang in a choir, and our group performed twice a year, at Christmas and Easter. I don't remember most of the music that we sang, but I'll never forget this particular piece... Brahm's Requiem. So powerful and moving... I'd get teary, every time I sang it.

I love all of it, but the 6th Movement is my favorite. Especially the part starting at the 3 minute mark, leading to the dramatic high point at around the 6th minute. The choir is mocking Death "Tod, wo ist dein Stachel? Hölle, wo ist dein Sieg?" which in English is "O Death, where is thy sting? O Hell, where is thy victory?"
