What the writers did to Sam in the first half of season 8 was total character assassination. The reasons that were given for Sam not to look for Dean didn’t make sense, and Sam abandoning Kevin added to absurdity of this storyline. Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, Sam hits a dog and hooks up with Amelia. It was so bad, most of the fandom was hoping she was one of Sam’s hallucinations. Unfortunately, we weren’t that lucky.
The best thing about early season 8 Sam is the HAIR. We were blessed with the most glorious Sam hair ever, as if to ease the pain of the worst Sam storyline EVER.
You know what's also really awesome? We get three Sam and Dean hugs this season! ♥
A really great ep that didn’t make the list is Everybody Hates Hitler.
My top 5 eps
1. Sacrifice
OMG, Jared’s acting in this ep was amazing. His scenes with Crowley blew me away. And then the boys make a commitment to each other in the church in what is truly one of the best scenes of the entire series. “Don’t you dare think that there’s anything, past or present, that I would put in front of you!” The ending with the angels falling and the brothers looking up at the sky is so beautiful.
2. Trial and Error
The beginning of the trials storyline. Dean wanting Sam to live… that’s Dean’s happy ending. Sam telling Dean that he’s not a grunt… he’s a genius. That there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and Sam wants to take Dean there. Also, the boys wearing glasses!
3. The Great Escapist
There’s something really awesome about all the scenes with feverish Sam. I love how he remembered that Dean used to read to him (Sir Galahad), and we find out that even as a young boy, Sam thought he wasn’t “clean”. Protective!Dean forcing down Sam’s fever by putting him in a tub of ice water.
4. As Time Goes By
A great time travel ep with Sam and Dean’s grandfather. We’re introduced to the Men of Letters storyline, and Abaddon.
Larp and the Real Girl
It’s good to be queen! I’m going to cheat, and put Pac-Man Fever in here too, cause I love all the Charlie eps.
