Songs From the Cage
Sam shines in crazy colors like the sun; a patchwork of bright yellow and orange and red. HellSam squints... "The light is too bright in here," he says, and RoboSam laughs, a deep laugh several shades darker than midnight. Sam sweats sunlight, not the murky stuff you'd expect from someone whose pain runs deeper than the earth's core. But his skin is too tight, and his throat is too dry, now that he's breathing for three.
HellSam sings them to sleep, lulls them with his nightmare voice, burns them with his songs from the Cage, and RoboSam isn't laughing anymore. The soulless one wakes them up, walks them under the fevered stars of night. "Dreams are for the weak," he says. None of them sleep now, none of them feel anything as the the stars shine from Sam's eyes, lighting their way through a sleepless world.
