long edges curled and brown,
where’s your sass now,
sweet Fall,
where’s it now?

Hook leafy fingers on a star,
heart caught in its fantastic twinkle,
season’s clock ticks away,
are you still awake,
sweet Fall,
are you still?

Frozen trees used like a cane,
limbs cautious but steady,
illustrious to the end,
welcome the little one,
bounce a healthy winter on your knee,
gather up your leafy skirt
of goodbyes,
until we meet again,
sweet Fall,
until we meet again.
