This is a recent interview from Robbie Thompson and most of it is about Supernatural. It's very interesting, and I have a question about something that he discussed.
He talks about the samulet, and you can watch it by skipping to the last part of the interview... it starts at 1:7:30. Robbie gives a great response, and shares his headcanon about it (starting at 1:13.05).
He says that he didn't think it would be something that people would debate about (where the samulet came from). This isn't word for word, but his headcanon is that Sam took it out of the trash, kept it in a duffel bag where he kept his personal stuff, then put it in the box of mementos (that we saw in "Into the Mystic"). When Sam started "talking" to God in season 11, that's when he began to carry it in his pocket.
So, Robbie used his headcanon as a type of backstory, in order to create a storyline that does become canon (Sam having the samulet). And if he's basing Sam's storyline off of this, does it become a type of canon, even though it's not canon in the usual sense?
