About goddamn time. I've never bought into Dean's belief that he's just a grunt, but I've always seen Sam as the hunters' equivalent of a four-star general in the making. In fact, I think that's one of the reasons Sam and John clashed so much, they're both generals, and just as Sam instinctively balked at taking orders from anyone, John's feathers were ruffled to see someone not following his. I think that's also why Sam and Dean clashed so much in the first season - he'll work with Dean as an equal, but that "I call the shots 'cause I'm the oldest brother" shit had to go. General Sam Winchester, finally, rallying the troops and leading them into battle, I salute you, sir!
And that slide was sexy, perhaps sexier than Dean sliding into that zombie's grave in S2. Probably because Sam is sliding to save Dean! :D

That's a very good observation about Sam and John... they're so alike. And the brothers have worked on being equals throughout the seasons.
