SPN Christmas Drabble - Hope Begins to Rise

Spoilers for ep 12.09.

Poor boys, it looks like they're in solitary. Here, I'm imagining what it might be like for Sam...

Hope Begins to Rise

When there’s no night or day, what’s left is very pure. The pure terror of emptiness, sunshine’s ray bent and broken. That’s what Sam sees, every time he looks up. Somewhere, jammed between the cracks and the claustrophobic squeeze of the narrow ceiling, there’s a dark hole that sucks up every ounce of hope.

He scratches Dean’s name in the dirt, over and over again. He scratches the wall, etching out a non-existent window. He stares at the flowers that aren’t there. The colors are as flat as the wall that supports them.

Hours start to sing his name… 24 of them. Sam marks them on the ground, as time returns to his world.

Christmas dreams about Dean fill his empty days. Endless prayers to Cas fill his empty nights.

Like the faintest hint of dawn, hope begins to rise.
