It's the weekend! And not for any less hassle than would make a Friday worth it:
8:30AM - Showered, breakfast-ed (Still currently enjoying my cosmic merriam-webster powers from a previous post) and awake, I hit the road just in time to be on time when I find that my gas has been siphoned. One credit card and thirty minutes later, I am once again the golden un-caught speed-when-I-have-to demon and slide into work on time.
9:00AM - Work begins and I have two rewrites of employee accounts dropped on my desk waiting for me, including one who is another Vice President. How many VPs does a company need? I think we have between fifty and sixty. Tracy and I stayed late to finish all of this week's insane distribution load yesterday, so today was a good day to catch up on the last of my underwriting work from last week. New business application debuts in a couple weeks, which is supposedly less buggy. I'm not holding my breath, particularly since this one is internet-based. *shivers* The acronym for this one is SNOW, which goes well with our other acronyms of SNAP and SOAP. "Hrmm.. Well, I wrote you in SNOW, and Tennessee is a SNAP state, but it placed you in SOAP and SNOW won't change SOAP to SNAP." Rrrriiiiight.
10:30AM - Fifteen punches on my Boca Beans card. but that's where it's going to stay. Jeannie's gonna make her Wednesday run. If my willpower is high, I going to try to restrain. And I wondered why I used to get so tired after work?? Also start reverse-tracing phone numbers because someone called Security to have them deliver Sonya a flower bouquet that we are pretty sure was NOT from Elliott. We suspect the carpet cleaner. (Scandalous!)
11:00AM - Back to work and Carly's in by then. Carly's sweet as daquiris, and when you only sit within earshot of eight people at any given time, it's nice to have a new voice behind ya. Carly asks a lot of questions, which is understandable since the gal who trained her has never worked the job herself. (No offense, Anna. It's the system, not you.) We warn people that their second batch of trainers are us once they hit the floor, and we're not nearly as forgiving as the cheerleaders in the training dept. (Metaphoric reference only - again, no offense, Anna.) Muahaha.
1:15PM - I go back to San Fran Sourdough. Delectably soft in the center, but has a light and crisp crust. Always piping hot. Mmmmm. I'm going to miss dishing the dirt with my cafeteria cronies, Jeannie and Berta, but I can't afford their catering--or gossiping--services anymore. To compensate for the fact that the company pays for 20% of our meal prices, the cafeteria prices rose 21% this week. That's fine, I can adjust. Just means I lose Jeannie and Berta. But I won't stand for that, either! So now I'll just find an excuse to pick up some yogurt or something once in a while.
2:45PM - "Gold" Time. This is half an hour that's allotted to me every day except Mondays to do all the off-phone work that I get in a day. We think this needs a revisit. Even with the new folks on hand, you should see my inbox. Take the opportunity to post some website questions and slice a tiny chunk of Nichole's black forest cake. Feel guilty about partaking after being so good this week, but she's part of Carly's group and wanted to celebrate that she survived the week.
4:00PM - Work starts to quiet down. I catch up on all of my new faxes and Liz drops by a stack of undeliverables to sort through. Then, for the last hour of the day, Liz, Virginia and I discuss politics and great chicken marinades while we wield our letter openers against the paper barrage.
5:30PM - Home free, and a pit stop at the store on the way home to pick up more crackle logs. I had a drum circle in my backyard two nights ago--just minus the drums, pot, and hippies--and built a roaring fire in the backyard. Placed barricades between the fire pit and the nearby bridge so as not to distract the drivers (and attract any nosy cops). Moved the living room furniture out there with us and some friends and I enjoyed the roaring flames and the view of the bridge.
NOW - Killing half an hour before I have to shower and start my crazy weekend. I'll be busy until Tuesday, so don't plan on an update until I've been out and seen more of the world than I have today!
