Well, I certainly feel flushed. The first date is over and, as far as I can tell it seemed to go pretty well.
The day was spent mostly in anticipation. We weren't supposed to meet until 5pm so there were a few things I decided to go out and do first. On a whim, I went by Best Buy and used some of those McDonalds Best Buy Bucks to pick up a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2, and then it was off to Sears to purchase a new watch. I then returned home, continued to work on laundry, and installed NWN2 (which took a while, 7 disks in the standard CD Rom version, then an 80+ meg patch). I didn't really play much of it at all because I was fiddling with the settings to make it run better. Out of the box it runs pretty bad on my computer, which is a little surprising since I've got a fairly decently, although by no means top-of-the-line rig.
Anyway, being the nervous person that I am, I left way too early and got to our meeting point about half an hour early (it's like a 5 minute drive from my place). So, I bought the movie tickets and stood around in the cold, damp, misty air for about half an hour for my date to show.
And show she did. We then took my car to drive to Elephant Bar at a mall not far away. I managed to embarrass myself slightly by turning too soon and ending up on the interstate, but at least the next exit wasn't that far away.
During dinner we had a pretty nice, if rambling conversation. I was somewhat afraid of awkward silences, but it actually seemed to go fairly well without too much of those.
After dinner we drove back down to the theater, and I'm glad I bought the tickets ahead of time because the ticket booths were PACKED. The theater's in a pretty central location, so it's pretty busy during peak times. We had to wait a little while to get in to the theater, so we stood in the lobby and continued our rambling conversation.
We went to see The Prestige, which it turned out her friends had dragged her too earlier that week, but she said she really wanted to see it again to try and figure stuff out. It was in interesting movie. A little twisty and odd at times, but pretty interesting. It's one that it helps to see a couple of times to figure things out and catch everything, though.
Anyway, after the movie I walked her to her car where we stood and talked for a little while longer. It was a little awkward for me, since I'm still pretty much a n00b at this. She did say that she'd like to go out again, though, so I suppose that's at least a good start. We may end up going out to dinner again tomorrow night, but a movie is doubtful as I have to work on Sunday morning.
So, overall I think it was fairly successful. Physical contact was limited, though, as I'm pretty cowardly and I didn't want to overstep my bounds, especially since she had been on some dates recently which she told me ended rather badly.
At the very least it's a start, I suppose. I guess I'll just have to see where things go from here.
For the moment, I need to finish my laundry...
