FAQs

WHAT IS CASELAND?
We are an interactive challenge community along the lines of whedonland and many others. caseland is specifically focused on television series within the "police procedural" genre. There are three (3) teams - Team Cops, Team Forensics and Team Morgue. Members compete with teammates to gain points. Challenges range from writing to graphics making to puzzles to other randomness. At the end of each phase, the team with the most points is declared the winner of that phase. The next phase usually starts about a month after the end of the last phase.

WHAT FANDOMS ARE INVOLVED?
To avoid any confusion, please see the List of Accepted Shows. If you believe a show is missing, please look at the qualifications listed in that post before commenting with a suggestion.

DO I NEED TO KNOW ALL THE FANDOMS TO JOIN?
Not at all! However, I'm guessing that the more shows you're familiar with, the more fun you'll have with a variety to choose from.

WHAT IS YOUR SPOILER POLICY?
Spoiler Policy!

HOW DO I JOIN? WHEN CAN I JOIN?
You may join at any time, no need to wait for the beginning of a phase. Anyone can join! You need to fill out a simple application to join so that you can be sorted onto a team. Once you've been assigned to a team, you'll receive invites for caseland, case_bullpen, and your team community. (The teams are teamcops, teamforensics, and teammorgue.)

If you would like to apply to be a team leader/mod (and there is a position open), you may apply after you are sorted.

I JOINED, NOW WHAT DO I DO?
You should join all three communities (caseland, case_bullpen, and your team community). Then you should take a look around to get familiar with the comms. Your team probably has an introduction/get-to-know-you post, so that's a good place to start. case_bullpen will also have social posts for all members to get to know one another.

When you're ready to start participating in challenges, you can find open challenges on the sidebar of all communities.

A helpful tip: It is not required, but if may help you to track caseland and/or your team community so that you get notifications of new posts.

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS OF ME?
You are encouraged to compete in any and all challenges you can - every point helps your team! However, at a bare minimum you are expected to participate in at least one challenge every three weeks. (This should work out roughly to participating in one challenge out of every five consecutive challenges.)

If your participation is down, you will receive a message to remind you and given the opportunity to participate in one of the next three challenges before you are cut from your team. You may always return as you wish, but you will have to reapply for a team.

If you need to be absent from the game for an extended period of time and don’t want to be cut in the meantime, please let me know at the Hiatus or Opt-Out Post in advance.

HOW DO I ENTER A CHALLENGE?
Each challenge will have its own post with details of what is required and when the challenge is due. You will leave a comment with your entry on the Challenge Post. Sometimes comments will be screened so you will not see the other entries.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT A PARTICULAR CHALLENGE?
The first comment on every Challenge Post will be a question thread set up by the mod. Please ask challenge-specific questions there.

I AM NOT THE BEST WRITER / GRAPHICS PERSON. DOES THAT MATTER?
Not at all! While there is occasionally voting, participation is what's most important. It's the effort that counts above all, so jump right in! You'll find most people here are just "winging it", and half the fun is learning to do new or unfamiliar things.

AM I ALLOWED TO POST AT CASELAND? WHAT ABOUT MY TEAM'S COMMUNITY?
You will be allowed to post at the social community, case_bullpen, but not on caseland. Why? Because caseland is kept organized by sticking to challenge posts and important messages from the mods.

You are also allowed to post on your team community. Cheerleading, reminders, and social posts that bring your team together are encouraged. If you ever have a question about content you can post on your team, defer to your team leaders.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MY TEAM'S COMMUNITY?
The team communities are locked to members only, so you can develop strategies and encourage each other to complete the missions and rack up points. They are often used for challenge reminders and help/hints posts. They’re also a great place to just have fun with your fellow teammates; teams often have games and other activities to supplement the official caseland missions.

WHAT IS CASE_BULLPEN?
This is the social side of caseland where members from all teams can come together and hangout. Sometimes challenges will involve entries that fit best in an independent post and you can post your submissions in this comm. Be sure to link to your entry in the Challenge Post or you will not get points.

HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU IF I HAVE A GENERAL QUESTION/PROBLEM/SUGGESTION/NEED YOUR HELP ASAP?
Make sure you have read this FAQ post or the questions thread on the Challenge Post. If you still have other comments/questions/etc., you can drop either heffermonkey or jeweledvixen a line at Page-a-Mod, or PM one of us.

WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED TO LEAVE THE GAME?
Be aware that you have the option of going on a hiatus (a break) if you need some time to breathe. Going on hiatus means you will retain your position on your team. If you truly need to leave, we're sad to see you go, but will always welcome you back.

Please let us know what you would like to do in the Hiatus and Opting-Out Post.

Thanks to spy_land for letting us borrow from their FAQ's in writing this post.
