When you find yourself explaining the difference between the Doctor's sonic screwdrive and the Master's laser screwdriver as "because the Master is really twelve and therefore has to have a bigger, shinier, more violent phallic symbol than his ex-college drinking buddy rival boyfriend."

And then your non-fannish friend smiles and nods and backs away slowly.

*sigh*
