Camera Club

It's been a while since i posted about my camera club adventures, so i thought i'd show some of what i have been doing lately.

Next month's competition is 'Creative Experimental'...i have been hoping they would have a comp like this for ages!! Finally, a chance to do what i do best....well, what i do with the most enthusiasm, anyway. :-)

Firstly, i wanted to do a non-traditional 'fairy shot'. Kita was more than happy to disrobe (little extrovert that she is) and she worked very hard at the photoshoot, to give me just the pose and expression i wanted. I was very proud of her. Then i added her to a photo i took at a graveyard in Nikko, Japan...then added wings from a butterfly i photographed in Singapore. I hand coloured Kita and added lots of shadow, as that is what makes a an added object look truly grounded in an image. I should have been working last night, but i spent three hours on this instead...i had heaps of fun and i love the result. Kita is seriously chuffed with it too!

I also decided to enter a pic that i created a little while ago, inspired by another comp, but ultimately unused. I photographed Paul's mouth and Marina separately, naturally.

Recently, another competition theme was "Portrait in Natural Light"...another theme i was very enthused about. I got a chance to enter this pic of Wendy and her puppies that i took not so long ago. The judge loved it, although complained that the dogs weren't looking at the camera. Never work with animals, eh?

I had also planned a somewhat cheesy photoshoot with Emily (nosey housewife peering at neighbours through the curtains) but wasn't able to organise the shoot in time. My brother Marc stepped in at the last minute...although the photo turned out far darker and more sinister than i originally planned! For the record, my good-looking brother does NOT look that scary and haggard in real life! LOL I spent quite a bit of time working on it and was very happy with the result. The judge absolutely canned it though, which broke my heart. I plan to enter it in a another open comp next year to see what another judge might say about it.

Next month the comp is "Table Top Still Life". I will NOT be shooting a bowl of fruit. Must think of something clever!
