Álvaro played a fantastic game against Deportivo Xerez last night and initialised the victory by scoring the 1-0:
Arbeloa happy with first goal as a Madridista
Álvaro Arbeloa talked to AS and radio programme El Larguero about his past in the Real Madrid academy and his first goal for the Whites, netted on Saturday against Xerez.
"I'm a hard working player and I don't mind it when people say I try to do things as simply as possible. I'm proud of being that way."
"On Saturday, I scored my first goal in the Spanish First Division, but I did manage to net two with Liverpool in the Premiership."
"The fact that we are the least scored-upon Real Madrid side in the last 22 years says a lot about the defensive work the whole team is doing, not just the defence."
"As a defender in the academy, you always try to play the ball well and avoid clearing it with long, unfocused shots. They teach you a different view of what a defender actually is. We have to instill the team with confidence and avoid making mistakes. I know what academy players go through and they should be calm. I'm sure academy players will be promoted with Pellegrini as first team coach."
"Luis Molowny was a player, a coach and Sporting Director at the Club. His death is a great loss and it reminds us of how important he was. Pellegrini is similar to him in that he is a very calm man."

He scored the all-important breakthrough goal against Xerez, one that he finished with a striker’s clinical aplomb. Not bad for a defender who had previously only ever scored twice.
