article: hit or miss?

Jan 17, 2010 23:24

This website is discussing how the big Real Madrid summer signings have settled in and whether they're a hit or a miss.

This is what the author of the article wrote about Álvaro:

Arbeloa, the cheapest of Real’s signings, was always likely to do well for them simply because he’s a proven defender and they signed him so cheap, meaning that even if he did do poorly they hadn’t lost much on him. The right back has generally had to play on the left, because dropping Sergio Ramos is hard to do, but he’s not complained and done a solid enough job there - although he’s not the attacking threat Real may want from their full backs.

Verdict: Hit
What do you think?

I've followed Álvaro's career at Liverpool and I disagree that he's not an attacking threat. The scenario at Real is different, of course, and he's got more defensive duties, but I've often seen him run up and down his right side when he was still at Liverpool, doing excellent crosses and keeping the opponent's defenders busy. Give him more time and I'm sure he'll do that with Real, too.
