FIRST DAY! :D I'm actually going to really, really enjoy this. (Well, I say that now at least) Wrote it kind of quickly, but I think I got rid of most of the errors. And, well, the word grey... I spell it with an 'e' (though I can't fathom why, because that's typically the British spelling, and, well, I'm not British.), so I was just wondering if that means that 'greying' is spelled with an 'e'. Hmm. Anyways. Getting off topic is something I can do quite easily.
Title/Prompt Grey
Rating: PG-13 for language
Summary: The world seemed grey now. [Sam POV, gen. Takes place after No Rest for the Wicked. Maybe Sam/Dean, if you really squint]
Length: 260 words
Grey. The world seemed so grey now--no life, no color. Ever since...
Sam shuddered, sobs starting in the back of his throat even though his tears had dried up. He'd cried for a good, long time after that day. Sobbing until he could no longer breath, shaking so badly it hurt.
Because of him, because he had to go and make stupid decisions, the world had turned grey, lifeless. All because he couldn't save him. Protect him. Sam may have been the younger one, but that didn't mean that he couldn't protect him. He had failed him.
Sam had, in one way or another, always failed those around him. He'd failed his father many times by not being "daddy's perfect soldier", by going to Stanford. He'd failed Jess as well. Failed her by not protecting her from the shadows that lurked in the night, by letting Azazel kill her. But none of those failures compared to this one.
His own goddamned brother, and Sam couldn't do a thing to save him. He'd tried, sure, but not hard enough. Never hard enough. Watched as the months ticked by, just waiting. Always waiting. Waiting and doing nothing. Going on case after case, practically counting down the hours until that final moment would come. And he didn't do a thing.
Even when his own brother was dying, Sam didn't do a single, fucking thing. Just watched as the hell hound shredded his brother into pieces, dragging his soul to hell.
The day Dean Winchester went to hell, the world (Sam's world) got a little more grey.
