Day after day, week after week, for nearly three years I've been taking a wide range of meds that all have the ultimate goal of keeping "little Jamie", my donor kidney happy in his new home. My transplant team was very pro-active in making sure that we understood our medication regimen and closely watched doses and times.
One thing that was drilled into our heads was, "No matter how many times you organized these pills into boxes for time of day or day of the week. Always, always look into your hand and actively process what is there before you put it into your mouth.
Monday I looked down dutifully into my hand at the first fistful of pills of the day, as always, and I saw it. There was one extra capsule of one of my anti-rejection drugs. I went back to my pill box for the week and realized I had placed an extra capsule of meds in each slot of my morning dose.
Here's to good training! And kudos to a transplant team that knows how to scare the bejesus properly instruct organ recipients!
