This is indeed a huge surprise for Han that Chewbacca knew Yoda. I hope they will tell Luke all about it, too. > Maybe the Jedi had failed because they'd become too fixed in their ways. Clearly there was something wrong with the old ways if they failed. Such is the way of things. Everything gets old to be replaced by something new. > They carved their visions That's cool! > twin suns blazed down on the world below. Whoa!! I enjoyed the description of Polis Massa and the caves very much. I held my breath reading about the last cave, and the talk afterwards. Sith history! No wonder Jedi visited here trying to understand their enemy. And the Cave of the Prophecy! So this is where it came from.
I think with Chewbacca that he has a totally different way of looking at things, and one that is very unlike the human way. Although he has no in-depth insight into the Jedi, he witnessed Yoda's shock during the Order 66 killings and must have wondered how so much could've gone wrong.
It's nothing as simple as the Jedi becoming too fixed in their ways, but from an outsider's point of view that may have been how it seemed. I do think it's partially true as one small element in a very complex situation, but I also think it was because the Jedi changed too much from how they were meant to be.
I know George Lucas has intentionally kept the details of the prophecy to himself, but it's certainly fun to speculate and invent :D. And with all the coincidences (or the will of the Force!) already in play in the saga, I thought I might add another one!
