It was a good training exercise for Leia, when she experienced what Luke felt on the Death Star. And it was wonderfully written - first heady excitement, then curiosity why Luke was holding back, then realization. I loved the dialogue after that. Luke doesn't think much when there's no time for that, but if there's no need for immediate action he becomes almost a brooding type. :) > It smoldered for a second or two, before the fire engulfed it fully. Great imagery here. And it was a beautiful moment when Leia shared her vision with Luke.
I think of all the lessons Luke learned about the Force, one of the most powerful was his own experience of that step towards the Dark Side, because then he really understood, and really knew. All his worries about teaching Leia, and doing as Yoda has asked him to do - to pass on what he's learned - can only go so far. He didn't exactly want Leia to experience that, but once he knew what was happening, he realised how important it was to make her see it for herself, just as he did.
I'm glad you like the sharing of the vision. I needed to establish just what it was that Leia remembers about her mother after her remarks in ROTJ :)
