Balloons!

Today I wish I had a laptop. If I did, I might spend more time updating from the comfort of my couch. But instead, I'm sitting in my hard desk chair and feeling worn out.  I don't know if it was putting in four hours at work yesterday, but I never really felt like I found my energy or my happy place. Tomorrow I hope to find both.

But despite a total lack of ambition, I did want to take a moment and talk about my extremely nice Saturday.

As I believe I've mentioned before, Jeff lives in Indianola, Iowa - home of a hot air balloon museum. Every year they have a big festival that spans from one weekend through another. Each day of the festival, they have balloon launches in the morning and the evening. Now, the great part of these launches is that one of the launching and landing sites is probably a mile from Jeff's place making for prime balloon watching. This year, Jeff sent an email out to several friends inviting them over for the Saturday evening launch, and pretty much everyone decided to come. There were probably more than 30 people in Jeff's front yard and driveway. It was fabulous! We had lots of good food and lots of great company.

My favorite part of the evening was after the fireworks when it was getting just a bit chilly outside. Heidi, Dan, Mary, Todd, Jeff and I were all sitting in chairs covered up in blankets and laughing. We joked that we looked like we belonged in the retirement home. As usual, that led to ridiculous conversation about the poor church kids that would be trotted out to come sing to us some afternoon, and we started talking about what song we would request they sing. We started naming completely inappropriate songs like Britney Spears' Toxic, Salt-n-Pepa's Push It, and I believe Dan said he would request Pump Up the Jam. I could be wrong about that, but I think it's close in spirit.  And really, if I was living in a retirement village, I'd be quite content with that group for company. At least we'd laugh a lot while we started falling apart.

It's shaping up to be a pretty busy week, but there's fun stuff happening. Now, please Universe, the energy to make it through with grace and enjoyment? That would be great.

jeff, people that make me smile, balloon festival, weekend
