Fun questions about music

Oct 15, 2008 17:41

My dear amazoniowan, Dan, and Jeff created a list of music-related questions a few weeks ago when they got together.  Heidi and Dan have already answered them on their blogs, and because I'm avoiding responsibility, I thought I'd post my answers, as well.  Feel fee to take the questions and answer them on your journal.  :)

MUSIC MEME

1. What was your first CD? And do you still own it?

My dad was an early adaptor to CDs, so I’m pretty sure this happened in the mid-80s. The first CD I’m certain I owned because I specifically asked for it was Mr. Mister’s Welcome to the Real World (released in 1985). I admit it; I was sucked in by the schmaltz of the videos. And I was exceedingly fond of Kyrie.  Another early CD - Amy Grant: The Collection, a random gift from my parents that I ended up liking. I don’t have either of them anymore because our house was broken into shortly after we moved when I was 12.

2. What was the last physical CD you bought?

I almost never buy physical CDs anymore. It’s sort of sad. The last physical CDs I bought, though, were all three Battlestar Galactica soundtracks. The only reason this happened is because they weren’t available on iTunes.

3. Most memorable make-out to music moment?

I have to say, I can’t recall any specific music from these moments, it’s usually been the TV or the sound of crickets outside of the car (it wasn’t on so the battery didn’t die). *pauses a moment while she realizes what she just admitted* Ahem, anyway, I do fondly remember dancing one time quite spontaneously in my living room to Harry Connick, Jr. ‘s “We Are in Love”. And apparently the music of Camelot and West Side Story brings out my sexy side because I hooked up with fellow musicians both times I played in the pit for a school musical. Confined quarters must bring out my best features.

4. Memorable vinyl? (singles or albums.)

Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Janet Jackson’s Control, actually any of these records (no, I didn’t own #13 on vinyl) were extremely memorable for me.

5. Biggest regret of a musical purchase?

I think the album that finally led to my three good songs per album before purchase rule was 1988’s All That Jazz by Breathe. (Remember their whopping two hits How Can I Fall and Hands to Heaven?) Yeah, I don’t think I listened to this one all that much. I was also pretty disappointed in the Boomerang soundtrack. Oh, and Whitney Houston’s Greatest Hits album was a dud for me since most of the up-tempo songs were re-mixes (and I’m not a big fan of remixes if I don’t already have the original version).

6. Most embarrassing musical purchase?

The Muppets Greatest Hits, but you know what, I love it and refuse to apologize for having it.

7. Biggest musical purchase aberration?

I have what I refer to as my very angry music CD; it’s the first disc of the XXX Original Soundtrack. The movie came out while I was absolutely miserable at work, and the metal/hard rock from the film really worked for me. To this day, if I’m feeling furious about something and I’m in the car, I’ll turn the volume waaaaaaaaaaaay up, and yell the lyrics along with the vocalists. I think it’s a healthy form of release. LOL
