It must be Friday

  • You know, there are days when I’m sure I have adult onset ADD.  I find it increasingly difficult to concentrate on one thing at a time, which is especially irritating at work.
  • Speaking of work, I still need a vacation.  I really need to spend some time figuring out when I can afford take a few days away from the office.
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was very good.  It’s definitely darker than the previous films, but the book has a darker tone than the four previous books, as well.  The actress playing Dolores Umbridge was perfectly cast - she was perfectly awful and creepy.  I do think Order of the Phoenix strayed more from the book than the previous films, but I believe most of that was due to time constraints; that was a thick book!  I also may have noticed it more since I had just finished my re-read of the book on Monday.
    • There’s a scene that made me cry a little bit, and for those that are familiar with the plot it wasn’t during the big “oh no!” moment, it was later.  They did such a great job capturing the love and support Harry has had from his best friends and adopted family over the years that my eyes watered up a bit.  It was a fantastic way to use the power of filmmaking to heighten emotional resonance for the viewer.
    • Watching the film in a dome theatre was fun, but I’m not sure I’d do it again.  It was a bit hard to get used to the perspective changes sometimes (since the film was clearly not made for a dome screen).  Also the seats were not particularly comfortable.
    • Another side note:  I’d like to send a personal jeer to the woman sitting next to me in the theatre.  Burping loudly at least 15 times during the course of a film is gross and rude.  I understand you weren’t doing it on purpose and were having some gastro-intestinal issues, but after the first five or six times you should have exited the theatre to find some Tums or other relief.  (Honestly - Janelle was sitting on the other side of me and heard this woman belching.  It was thoroughly disgusting!)
    • Side note 2:  I feel like I’m turning into a dirty old woman because I kept finding myself admiring Daniel Radcliffe during the movie, but he’s turned into quite the hottie!  It’s so wrong to find someone almost half your age attractive.  I felt better, though, when Janelle mentioned on the drive back that she thought the actor playing Ron was looking pretty good.  Of course, Janelle’s always been attracted to younger men… I’m going to stop thinking about this now.  J
  • As for weekend plans - they’re very amorphous at the moment.  I know Jeff and I are getting together tomorrow, so that will be quite nice.  Other than that - I’m all up in the air.3
  • I am increasingly enamored by Flight of the Conchords.  Honestly, you must YouTube these guys, they crack me up.  They’re my surprise summer obsession.
  • I’m getting excited for next week’s big event - I’m going to see Spamalot!  I have the soundtrack, and the music is absolutely hilarious.  It should be a good time.

That probably enough from me for now.  What are everyone’s weekend plans?

harry potter, spamalot, flight of the conchords
