Oh my cousin and I have just gone shopping around BoxHill and Chaddy. We went to this AMAZING korean delicacy and DAMN...the food is so delicious. It tasted so healthy but so nice. My cousin is veg so she had this tofu thing and I generally hate tofu but I tried some of hers and it was delicious. Ageshi Tofu (supposedly meaning 'fried tofu' in Jap, courtesy of my lovely Jap speaking cousin). Yet this tasted absolutely amazing. YUM. Trust Korean food to make me love tofu again XD
Bibimbap. A popular Korean Delicacy (and it taste AMAZING) I just had it minutes ago...
Yummm. Kimchi Soup (most likely with Pork)
Modern Kimchi ^_^ (I love Kimchi!)
Something similar to what I had. It's called bibimbap. This literally means "mixed rice" in Korean. It is absolutely delicious and it has so many flavours. Yumm!!
Kimchi! This is very popular in Korea and tastes really nice. It's not actually as bitter as it looks. It's made from a mix of cabbage, cucumber, spices and a mix od other vegetables. It not only taste delicious it's recognized as one of the five most healthiest food's in the world. I don't understand why people don't eat it more often...it's delicious and it compliments heaps of food like rice and soups.
Cute fact: When taking photos Korean people say "kimchi" similar to the way English speaking people say "cheese" (cute!)
Oh and if you've seen Witch Yoo Hee or Snow Queen you'll notice they make Kimchi in both ^_^
Kimchi soup!
So my friend had this once when we ate a Korean restaurant and even though she's never had Korean food (or any other asian for that matter) and she loved it! We were both really suprised! She loved it so much she asked if we could go there again. Pretty good for someone whose been eating hot dogs and pies all her life XD
Japchae
It has potato, stir fried in sesame oil with sliced beef and various vegetables. I've never had this but I'll certainly try this next time. It looks absolutely delicious. For some reason I LOVE all vegetables (except brocolli, have strange and freaky memories of brocolli)
so this is SO something I'd eat. I'm sure it tastes great XD
Grilled Marinated Beef
Oh! I had something very similar to this....it was really nice. Not as flavoursome but pretty good with rice and LOTS of side dishes.
oH THAT'S ANOTHER THING:
The first time I went to a Korean restaurant I was amazed at the amount of side-dishes. I had only ordered one dish with a serving of rice yet I was served 5 extra small side dishes! Some sidedished I've had are eggplant, sweet potato, kimchi (yum!), corn, chicken caesar salad, tofu and pickled cabbage. They all tasted fantastic.
Jajangmyeon
A very popular dish with noodles, with bean paste sauce, diced meat and vegetables and sometimes seafood. Oh I've never tasted this but I'm sure it's good. If you're a kdrama fan there is NO WAY (unless you are pretty new) that you don't know or have never seen this been eaten in dramas. Se7en's character in Goong S was a Jajangmyeon delivery boy and in Witch Yoo Hee Chae Moo-Ryong's parents own a Jajangmyeon shop. I'm sure there are heaps more examples of Jajangmyeon in dramas though. It's also very cheap- approx $3.50 U.S for a bowl! Pretty good!
Cute fact stolen *ahem* borrowed from wiki: In Korea, singles eat jajangmyeon on
Black Day. The noodles are a comfort food for those who have no
significant others. Heh. Like what we depressed (or happy!) singles would eat on a Valentines Day.
So the point of this post?! To make people eat more korean food. Duh.
Oh very random little story- Whilst my cousin and I were enjoying our fabulous Korean lunches a normal, Aussie looking delivery man came into the shop with some packages. We figured it was for the restaurant owner and didn't think twice. Until that was he started speaking fluent Korean and Japanese to her. I was fully like "wtf?!". This guy looked like a very TYPICAL aussie, western delivery man. He was short, white (probably European) with faded red hair,of facial hair wearing an old cap and boots. And here he was conversing in fluent Korean with the restaurant owner. And then (my cousin translated XD) he asked whether she knew Japanese and started speaking Japanese. I was so shocked! Wow! I didn't know so many average Aussies spoke fluent Korean or Japanese. Heh. But I was so proud because he was having trouble getting a box out of the door and the owner was like " Ken Shan ah?" (or something similar) meaning "are you alright?" and I fully understand! Scores! Yay! watching thoushands of Korean dramas does actually help your language skills.
Disclaimer: If someone Korean is looking at this and thinking 'WHAT THE HELL- that's not right?!" I'm sorry. Maybe I spelled something wrong, posted wrong info, I am not an expert- just some information I've found while randomly searching the net. Heh. Hope you'all enjoy and eat more Korean food!
So what type of food do you prefer to eat ?(e.g Korean, Chinese, Mexican, Italian)?!
ATM I'd say Korean but I have a love for spicy Thai as well ^_^
Oh! And tomorrow school starts again (I'm in year 10) so I doubt I'll be able to post/reply as much as I usually do but I'll try XD.
